Two events are occuring at the Museum of Photographic Arts (1649 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101) this weekend. On Friday, January 24th starting at 11am, Art Lab: Cy Kuckenbaker. This event is free with general Museum admission. Then on Saturday, January 25th, 10am to 11pm the Museum of Photographic Arts presents Connecting with the Curator: Staking Claim. It is the 2nd installment in a triennial series, bringing together the work of 16 California-based photographers & presents a survey of contemporary approaches to the art form. The exhibition includes work from both emerging and established artists, such as Matthew Brandt, Todd Hido, Mona Kuhn, Robbert Flick, Susan Burnstine, Doug Rickard, John Chiara, and Klea McKenna. If you enjoy drawing Leia (AKA: Lily Holiday of Pink Boombox Productions) then we encourage you to catch her performance at “Pink BoomBox Revue: Sideshow Edition”, this Saturday, January 25th, 6pm at the Brass Rail (3796 5th Ave in Hillcrest). “If you haven’t seen the avant-garde burlesk performance artists of Pink BoomBox now is the time to experience a truly unique and thrilling underground theater show. Snake charmers, fire acts, titillating dances of seduction, high flying gals and much, much more!”
And if you enjoy drawing Kelly (AKA: Lady Borgia of the Keyhole Cabaret) then come and see her perform at the Keyhole Cabaret’s “Shakespeare in the Dark” next Saturday, January 31th, 8pm at Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center (3925 Ohio St., San Diego, California 92104). Kelly will be moving to the East Coast, so come and catch her final performance in San Diego. This show will be “featuring TWO very special headliners. A legendary Burlesque goddess who got her start as a featured dancer with the Crazy Horse American tour, Shannon Doah. Also, in a rare return San Diego performance, male burlesque performer, currently residing in the Bay Area, Jet Noir!”
